Heh, my first solution above sucks. Just say ‘Hey, let’s talk sometime later. Bye for now. Good night. Take care!’. The response can be varied, from just a disconnect, to playing with the above words. And it’s not much bad if the call concludes without the farewell words.

It’s just a conversation between two persons who know each other quite well. It doesn’t matter much if the protocol is not followed every time.

What about gradually replying slowly, and then finally saying “Hey let’s talk later. Bye”. The other person wonders “What is happening?”, and there are two few variables for deducing anything. I guess this can’t be used regularly though. Good for once in a few weeks, say.

At least for me, saying “I’m busy, we’ll talk later” or “I’m busy, I’ll call you later” within the first few seconds is good; though the second version means that I’ll have to call myself; I ain’t comfortable with initiating calls to people whom I rarely talk to.. somehow.

Or just say, “My boss is here, be right back”.

Disconnecting without consent is way too rude.

I personally believe in being firm yet pleasant. If you r busy and cannot attend, say so nicely with a smile on your face. This can even be done if you do not want to take a call.

The best way that I know is to start saying something new, like, “Guess what? The new iPhone..” SNAP! Cut off the call. It sounds just like it was some kinda network error or technical fault. Then don’t call back. If its a mobile, just put the number on barring for a while, and if the person calls you, the call gets aumatically rejected making them think that the network error is really serious .
